Following an initial period of experimentation, Willink produced a form of realism with meticulous technique, of which this self portrait is an excellent example. He has painted himself in his work clothes, a three piece suit! He wipes his brush on a cloth; the painting is finished. Sharply spotlit, he tensely inspects the results.
