The landscapes of Lievens are generally fairly rapidly painted works, which are related in both the use of brush and colour to the landscapes of Flemish artists. People have also in this connection indicated that Adriaen Brouwer and Rubens were significant for Lievens, who lived in Antwerp from 1635 to 1644.
