The work of the Rotterdam designer Jaap Gidding is considered Dutch Art Deco. In the 1920s and 30s, as modernism with its lack of ornaments made its breakthrough, he remained a popular 'decorative artist'. His most famous work is the interior of the Amsterdam cinema Tuschinsky. Gidding designed this black and gold furnishing damask with stylised bird pattern for the cotton printing works of Van Vlissingen in Helmond
