This chair, stained black, is remarkable for its imaginative wedge-shaped support. The back of the chair is reminiscent of an Arabian water pipe and the inlaid work in bone also suggests the style and technique of Arabian examples. The Italian designer Carlo Bugatti designed countless pieces of furniture at the end of the 19th century in which he combined many diverse styles into an eclectic whole. He was the father of car designers Ettore and Jean Bugatti.
