In 1941, the New York Museum of Modern Art held a design competition called Organic Design in Home Furnishings. This chair in moulded plywood with walnut veneer was one of the prizewinners. Particularly innovative was the way in which Charles and Ray Eames were able to mould the seat and back in three separate directions, which made the chair very comfortable. The chair is made up of five separate parts which are connected together with rubber shock absorbers.
