An annotation on the back tells us that this drawing belonged to
an individual who can probably be identifed as Adriaan Leonard
van Heteren (1722-1800) of The Hague, director of the Dutch West
India Company. There is a tropical landscape in the background
to indicate the natural habitat of these birds. The Yellow-tufted
Woodpecker is native to the Amazon basin. The dark-headed form
of this dimorphic species is shown here.
