More information

This pear-shaped Japanese bottle is decorated with sprigs of flowers. Both sides of the bottle have a deepened impression of a shield. These show, on one side, a seated Japanese and a chicken looking down at several chickens, and on the other an opened peony. Objects with such three-dimensional representations were only made for a short period. Probably, the highly laborious technique was too expensive. This type of decoration is only found on Japanese porcelain made for export.
