This is a typical sheet of sketches by Cézanne. The drawings were done on the reverse of a coloured study of a tomb sculpture. He combined a study after a supposed self-portrait by Raphael in the Louvre with a study of houses and trees, which he drew at Jas de Bouffan, his country house near Aix-en-Provence.
