The Viennese potter Lucie Rie fled to London in 1938, where, with great discipline and devotion, she created a highly respected oeuvre. This wide bowl is mounted on a small foot with a subtle light green/grey glaze. The line decoration was left blank and filled with a dark oxide. It is one of the finest works of Lucie Rey, who was created a Dame in 1991.
