‘Split Seconds of Magnificence’ sometimes resembles a feature film or a commercial. Some of the scenes and texts remind us of famous adverts from the 1980s but they are in fact taken from performances by Lydia Schouten. Via her performance art, Schouten became one of the first video artists in the Netherlands. Her videos reflect critically upon the female body in art history, television and advertising imagery.
