The architect Kropholler was a devoted follower of H.P. Berlage. That he began his career as a carpenter is evident from the robust oak armchair. It was made in 1928, more than thirty years after the dressing table by Berlage displayed nearby and ten years after Rietveld's Red Blue Chair. So it was not a very progressive model for the time.
