These early machine-produced water kettles, designed by Peter Behrens, have a seemingly hand-hammered finish. These are two examples from a wider range: customers could choose from a variety of forms and finishes. Presumably AEG thought that more conservative customers would prefer a modern electrical device with a familiar traditional, handcrafted appearance.
