The drawing reproduces the composition of a painting by Jean-Baptiste Oudry in the Staatliches Museum Schwerin (inv. no. G 184), dated 1721. Oudry also used the same design for a print dedicated to Louis Bontemps and published by Gabriel Huqier in 1725. An impression is in the British Museum (inv. no. 2003,0731.8). Although this drawing might logically be a design for the print, as it reverses the painting and is partly incised, the size of the sheet is larger than the plate and the watermark bears the date of 1749. It must therefore have been made later, although the identity of the artist is unclear.
