More information

This saucer was originally part of a set with a water jug in the same style. Adam and Eve in paradise are shown in the middle of the saucer. The goddess Minerva, goddess of wisdom, crafts, art, science, trade and industry is shown around them. The Muses depicted on the saucer are borrowed from ornamental prints by Etienne Delaune (1518/19-1583), alternating with grotesques and nymphs. There is a similar decoration on the edge, with Roman emperors on horses and grotesques.
