In 1992 Rineke Dijkstra began making a series of photographs in which she asked teenagers to pose for her camera but gave them no instructions. As a follow-up to this series, she visited the Buzz club in Liverpool in 1997 and asked teenage clubbers to pose briefly before a video camera in a neutral environment. The result is an impressive series of portraits of teenagers who wrestle with the correct pose for that time and place and one that will project their carefully constructed identity.
