The work ‘Auditions’ consists of five photographs and was one of the first large series that Lockhart made. The photographs are based on the French film ‘L’Argent de Poche’ (1976). A scene in the film shows two adolescents having their first kiss on the steps in front of their school. In Lockhart’s photographs this intimate film scene is restaged by children, giving the images a somewhat unnatural and uneasy quality.
