All three works in this case come from the immediate circle of Giambologna of Flanders, the most important sculptor in 16th-century Italy after Michelangelo. His sensual sculptures were imitated and copy-cast endlessly. His fans could not get enough of him. The detail and the reflecting surfaces are superb. The composition, too, is beautiful, even making ballet out of a battle of life and death.
