In this partially gilded silver sculpture, Saint Paul holds a book with a text from the Bible: 'Take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God'. Saint Paul's traditional attribute is a sword, which is here replaced by the text. This sculpture and its pendant 'Saint Peter the Apostel' were possibly commissioned by Laura Gonzaga, duchess of Mantua.
