The coat-of-arms is of the branch of the Van den Heede family that was linked to the Lannoy family. Top left and bottom right on the coat-of-arms, refer to the Van den Heede family, bottom left and top right to Lannoy. This branch lived in Bruges and Oudenaarde. In general, the person in the portrait is identified as Joris van den Heede, who must have been born around 1520. From his first marriage with Livina de Baenst, who died in 1541, he had a son, Maximillian. His second marriage with Eleonora van der Beken brought forth two daughters, Anna and Eleonora. Joris van den Heede died in 1569.
