Emo Verkerk developed his own painting style, which bears no relation to traditional techniques. The composition is not put on in layers on a prepared ground, but is created like a collage. On occasions Verkerk literally cuts and pastes pieces from his canvas or adds different materials and objects to it. In this way his paintings take on a three-dimensionality.
