More information

This painting was part of the original Boymans collection bequeathed to Rotterdam in 1847. It was anonymous at the time, but was later attributed to Titian, which is not all that strange. The superbly rendered rage of the nymph seized by the bronzed faun would be worthy of him. A sort of rebus was later added on the back that speaks of a harsh fate.
