More information

Free-blowing, applique, forming and etching: all these techniques are used to make this vase. The Japanese designer and sculptor Ritsue Mishima moved to Venice, Italy, in 1989. Here, Mishima became fascinated by the glass created on the island of Murano. After a futile search for the perfect vase, Mishima started studying design. First, she made functional designs, but later Mishima also explored more abstract shapes. Each piece is a true collaboration as the artist makes a clay model while a glassblower simultaneously works on the glass sculpture.
