Jacob Jordaens (I)

Antwerpen 1593 - Antwerpen 1678

Jacob Jordaens worked as an assistant of Rubens. After the death of Rubens, Jordaens completed a number of paintings that were intended for Spain. The influence of Rubens can be clearly seen in the early works. Late in his life, his works acquired a more sober character. He also assisted in the decoration of Huis Ten Bosch. He made a number of portraits and assisted with the decoration programme of the city hall of Amsterdam, the current Dam Palace.
