Boijmans Backstage

During Boijmans Backstage, you get an exclusive glimpse into the world behind the collection. Museum staff share stories about their work — from research to exhibition — and how artists contribute to the collection. At times, you may even visit one of the compartments in the Depot.

Each time, you will meet a different staff member: from a curator to an art dealer, and from a restorer to an educator. Scroll down for the program for the recommended period.

Geert Mul - Horizons (Pixel Pioneers)
Central to the Pixel Pioneers exhibition is the artwork Horizons by artist Geert Mul.
This interactive installation was created especially for the museum and has not been on display for nearly twenty years. Horizons was recently restored, involving not only technical challenges but also the question of how digital art can be preserved for the future. During this tour, you will have the unique opportunity to engage in conversation with the artist himself about Horizons and his work.

Kirsten is an art mediator in sign language and will guide you through the Depot in an inspiring way. This tour is explicitly accessible to everyone, regardless of whether you speak sign language or not. The collaboration between Kirsten and the interpreter is an example of how the museum works on inclusion – enriching the experience for all visitors.
