Lee Miller in Print Symposium

On Saturday 27 January 2024, Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen will host a symposium related to the exhibition Lee Miller in Print and the book of the same title published by Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.

A life in print

Lee Miller (1907-1977) was in print all her life and reinvented herself again and again. Her life and work coincided with numerous social developments: photography, Surrealism, magazines and feminism, even the role of mental health: after witnessing the horrors of the Second World War, Miller sank into a depression but later returned to the spotlight once more, this time as a Surrealist cook and cookery writer.

Symposium

An international panel of speakers will address Lee Miller’s varied roles as a model, photographer, Surrealist, war correspondent, mother and cook, and how her life and work were reflected in lifestyle magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar and relatively unknown Surrealist magazines published during Miller’s lifetime.
