Coming Soon: Boijmans @ Rijksmuseum!

From the end of September, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam will present more than 90 artworks from the collection of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in a thematically organised exhibition in its Philips wing. Because Boijmans is closed for renovation and modernisation, the exhibition offers visitors an excellent opportunity to see masterpieces from the collection in another museum.

The exhibition covers almost every period and artistic movement collected by Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in its rich history. Highlights include old masters such as The Tower of Babel by Pieter Bruegel the Elder and The Pedlar by Hieronymus Bosch, and modern masterpieces such as the Portrait of Armand Roulin by Vincent van Gogh and the Little Dancer of Fourteen Years by Edgar Degas. Explore the wealth of Boijmans’ collection from Peter Paul Rubens to Cindy Sherman via Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, Salvador Dalí and Bruce Nauman. A sculpture by Donald Judd will adorn the atrium of the Philips wing and Ugo Rondinone’s light sculpture Breathe, Walk, Die will be displayed on the museum’s exterior so that it can be seen by anyone passing by.

One artwork that we would especially like to highlight is Yayoi Kusama’s immersive installation Infinity Room – Phalli's Field (Floor Show), unquestionably one of the most popular works in the museum’s collection. The work, which has been infrequently displayed in the past, has been thoroughly cleaned by a team of conservators in recent months and will be on view at the Rijksmuseum for the first time since Boijmans closed in 2019!

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen at Rijksmuseum can be seen from 29 September 2023 to 14 January 2024 in the Philips wing at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
