Uitgebeeld is een reiskoets bij een herberg met daarvoor mensen en paarden. Bij de koets staat een reisgezelschap van vier personen, waarvan de man een bedelaar afwijst. Rechts stroomt een rivier met twee zeilschepen en ligt een overdekte trekschuit aangemeerd aan de wal. De tekening is een kopie naar een vrijwel even grote tekening in Berlijn, die door Bock, Rosenberg en Winner als werk van Jan Brueghel de Oude beschouwd wordt.¹ Deze tekening in Berlijn is zorgvuldiger uitgewerkt dan de Rotterdamse compositie.
