More information

Most stray dogs do not live longer than a year; they succumb to illnesses caused by malnutrition and parasites. This dog was a survivor; he has grey hairs under his chin and so was a lot older when he died. No one is bothering about him. This sight would be inconceivable in the Netherlands nowadays. Most family dogs are cremated and sometimes even buried when they die. They are often mourned for a long time afterwards.
