This overgrown
fortress wall can be located thanks to Abraham Rademaker, who published the
drawing as a print in his 'Kabinet van Nederlandsche Outheden en Gezichten' (1725, no. 250), with the caption: “Vermakelyk gezicht van een out Poortje en
nevens gelege Wallen van de stadt Naerden in den Jare 1670, naderhant by de
Nieuwe Versterkinge afgebroken" [Entertaining view of an outer Gate and adjacent Ramparts
of the town of Naarden in the year 1670, later demolished during the New
Fortifications]. Whether this drawing
by Anthonie van Borssom also dates from 1670 is not entirely certain.
