More information

Saul, the old king of Israel sits in the foreground. He has been in a bad mood for several days because God is angry with him and he may have to give up his throne. The young David attempts to calm him with music (1 Samuel 18: 10-1 and 19:9-10). Thorn Prikker depicts the continuation of the story with Saul’s dismissive gesture. After his victory of the giant Goliath, David will save the Israelites and follow in Saul’s footsteps.
