Drapery Study for the Kneeling Mary Magdalen in the 'Noli me tangere', from the collection of Musée du Louvre, Paris.
The artist worked up the cloak of the kneeling Mary Magdalen in two drapery studies. It is as if the drapery folds were being moulded in black chalk and white highlights. Going by the study’s wooden torso, the artist was drawing from a draped mannikin. For this first study the right arm is set in the desired position. The head and lower arm were not relevant at this point and were omitted here.
