Study for the Standing Virgin in 'The Presentation in the Temple' of the 'Del Pugliese Tabernacle', from the collection of Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence.
This drawing and the previous one differ, because here the contours and
shadows are more emphatic and the light-dark contrasts more striking due
to the additional highlighting in white chalk. Both drawings have
‘pentimenti’ (corrections to and variations of components). In the first
drawing we see them in the repeated right hand; in this study they are found
in the heavily applied shading under the left arm, with the cloak held high
and the sketchily added hanging fold.
