Two studies for 'Christ and the Pilgrims on the Road to Emmaus', a Lunette Fresco originally in the Antica Foresteria of the San Marco Convent, Florence, since 1872 in the Cappella del Giovanato detta del Savonarola.

In 1506-1507 Fra Bartolommeo painted a fresco with Christ and the pilgrims on the road to Emmaus above the entrance to the guest quarters of the monastery of San Marco in Florence. These two sketches are the only surviving preparatory drawings for this fresco. The artist altered the position of the hands of the three half-length figures, in particular that of the pilgrim on the right who takes hold of Christ’s hand and his staff.
