This drawing is a design for the panoramic representation above a large print of the siege and conquest of Fort Mardijk by the French army of King Lodeweijk XIV under the command of the Duke of Orleans on the Spaniards. The fort was closed off at sea by Dutch ships. The print (an etching, Hollstein Dutch 100) was made by Claes Jansz Visscher II (with his workshop) and published in Amsterdam in 1645.
