Evenals inv. nr. H 10 stond dit blad in de collectie Koenigs op naam van David Vinckboons, maar wordt de tekening tegenwoordig toegeschreven aan de anonieme, Zuid-Nederlandse kunstenaar met de noodnaam de Meester van het Hermitage Schetsboek of Pseudo-Vinckboons. Het kasteel op de achtergrond, bestaande uit diverse gebouwen, een toren en een dwarsgeplaatst poortgebouw, is een vrije navolging van het kasteel op de gravure Feest in het bos, die Nicolaes de Bruyn in 1601 naar ontwerp van Vinckboons graveerde.¹ De prominent op de voorgrond geplaatste boom komt op diverse landschapstekeningen van de Meester van het Hermitage Schetsboek voor. Het is een echo van de grote boomgroepen waarmee Vinckboons, geïnspireerd door Gillis van Coninxloo, zijn kasteeltuinen aankleedde.

De tekening vertoont wat betreft compositie en iconografie overeenkomsten met een aan Louis de Caulery toegeschreven tekening in München, waarop eveneens een mooi gekleed gezelschap zich in een kasteeltuin vermaakt.² De uitwerking van de tekening in Rotterdam is echter schetsmatiger, met minder aandacht voor details als kleding, gezichten en bladerloof.
