This drawing of a boy looking upwards, holding a stick in both hands, corresponds to Cornelis Visscher’s print ‘The Rat Catcher’, made in 1655. A complete preparatory study for the print can be found in the Teylers Museum in Haarlem (inv. no. P+ 056). The Rotterdam drawing is either another preliminary study or an autograph repetition of the drawing in Haarlem.
