Hardly any drawings by Dirck Hals are known to exist. This sketch is regarded as a study for the print ‘Sight’, from a series about the Five Senses. The drawing differs in several ways from the print, which was made by Cornelis Kittenstein. So probably it is not a study but rather a later variation on the print.
