For many years Cézanne was preoccupied with the theme of
bathers in a landscape, both in drawings and paintings. He was
probably inspired by the paintings of nudes by old masters such as
Titian and Rubens, or contemporary artists such as Manet. Clearly
Cézanne did not aim to depict only the nude, but rather to combine
the human figure with nature.
