More information

Eugène Carrière made several prints of his sleeping children Jean-René, Marguerite and Lucie. The pose of the child seems closest to a print of Jean-René made in 1897 (see inv. no. Bdh 1000), although the drawing has previously been believed to show Marguerite, who is depicted in a lithograph of 1901, or Lucie, who is seen in an oil sketch in the Musée d'art moderne et contemporain de Strasbourg, also dated 1897.
