Nemesis is the Greek goddess of retribution. In Dürer’s time she was identified with Fortuna, the goddess of fate. Dürer’s depiction corresponds to Vitruvius’ rules of proportion outlined in his ‘De Architectura’. The goddess is placed above a magnificent landscape seen from above.
