Dürer’s depiction of the figures according to the classical ideal of beauty was a milestone in the Northern Renaissance. The naked Adam was designed after the example of the classical statue known as the Apollo Belvedere. For Eve, Dürer made detailed studies based on the Vitruvian Canon of Proportions.
