Portrait I

Ask anything

  • Tom asked

    What does diptych mean?

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

Dear Tom, a diptych is an artwork that consists of two parts. The parts belong together and tell a story. In the case of Portrait I by Jan van Munster, the film still is not the second part of the work but meant as a certificate to underline the acquisition of the 16mm film. I hope this is helpful! Kind regards, Els
