A.R. at Oberlin No. 5 (A Thing of Rilke)

Jim Dine (in 1966)

Ask anything

  • Filippo Bosco asked

Hi! What does it mean "A. R."? And does Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen have other works by Dine (graphics or drawings)?

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

Dear Filippo, indeed, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen has lots of works by Jim Dine in our collection. These works vary from sculptures to prints. Unfortunately they are currently stored in our depot so the public is not able to see them. As for the meaning of 'A.R.', we presume it stands for Artist in Residence. Jim Dine created this artwork during his residency at the Oberlin College which started in 1965. This was one of the seven works he created there. Kind regards, Sarie.
