More information

Schoonhoven wished to make the play of light and shadow visible in his monochrome white structures. He belonged to the 1960s Dutch group Nul (Dutch for 'zero'), which aimed to exclude subjective emotions from the work of relief art through the monotonous repetition of forms and materials., ‘The geometric aspect of Zero stems from the element of repetition, the placing in rows. This ordering comes from the necessity to avoid preferences.’ Jan Schoonhoven
