In this engraving Bruegel depicted a welcome break from the daily grind. This time the subjects are not peasants and beggars, but his fellow townsfolk. Bruegel devoted a great deal of attention to the spectators, who are having great fun watching the antics on the ice. The bare buttocks of the fallen skater are attracting considerable attention.
