Daedalus and his son Icarus are figures from Greek mythology. They
were imprisoned in a labyrinth on the island of Crete, and Daedalus
devised a means of escape - they would fy out like birds. He warned his
son not to fy too high, for the heat of the sun would melt the wax they
had used to attach the wings to their arms. But Icarus, with the arrogance
and recklessness of youth, ignored his father and plunged to his death:
pride comes before a fall.
