Ask anything

  • Micha asked

What is the meaning of this art work? Has the combination of Delft china and the golden ears which look Xhosa any special meaning?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

    Cheers Michael

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

    Hi Micha,

This piece was made by the artist inspired by a 17th century Delfts blue vase and a Nigerian (Egungun) mask from another collection in the Netherlands. It was made in collaboration with Marion Markelo who is an Afro-Surinamese Winiti priest.

    Best,
    Lisa
