Ask anything

  • Barbora Kubíková asked

Hello, I would like to ask about this art piece https://www.boijmans.nl/en/collection/artworks/151459/print . Is there some literature about this theme? It seems pretty interesting to me. Thank you!

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

Dear Barbora, thank you for your interest in this indeed remarkable theme. We have another print showing it, namelijk BdH 15386 (PK), but unfortunately there is no image yet. Our curator advises to read this article: J.M. Massing, ‘”Washing the Ass’s Head”: Proverbial and Allegorical Prints of the Sixteenth Century’, Print Quarterly 28 (2011), pp. 298-305.
Further he advises to look at the website of the Rijksmuseum which also owns a copy of the print. Under 'object information / documentation' you will find literature.

I hope this is helpful. Kind regards, Els
