More information

'Clas Feldtwaybel', by his own account, took part in the Battle of Pavia (1525). This was the decisive battle in the decades-long Italian Wars, in which many Swiss and German lansquenets fought. It was at Pavia that Emperor Charles V inflicted a humiliating defeat on the French king, Francis I. This Clas tells us that it was all thanks to him. As corporal of the field, he was responsible for drawing up the order of battle.
