This drawing is an excellent example of the effortless combination of fantasy - a dragon - and observed reality - a man and a dog, typical of the worldview of the time. The artist was active in the circle of Albrecht Dürer, and some drawings cannot be decisively attributed to one artist or the other. In general, Von Kulmbach’s style is more animated and nervous.
